A Reunionese Voice Finding Its Strength

The Reunionese singer remains true to the path she set from the very beginning: giving Creole the stature of a universal language in order to affirm her musical expression and proudly carry her commitments.

Fire and Determination

Fire and determination are the first words that come to mind when listening to the clear, inhabited voice of Maya Kamaty.
In 2014, she set the scene for her musical world, building a bridge between the maloya of her beloved island and modern pop, between the desire to let her roots grow and to immerse them in contemporary sounds.
She embodies the cultural blending of a fifth generation.

Santié Papang: The First Album

Her debut album, Santié Papang (2014), was a critical success, receiving the “Coup de Cœur” distinction from the Académie Charles Cros. With this release, she toured extensively across the globe, from India to Australia, via Morocco, South Africa, Canada, South Korea, and China.

Pandiyé: A Musical Evolution

Maya then chose to move away from the folk acoustic sound of her first opus and to deeply evolve her music. This artistic shift led to Pandiyé, released in 2018. With the collaboration of producer Victor Vagh (Flavia Coelho), Maya and her team found the right balance between organic textures and electronic elements.

Sovaz: Urban Maturity

With the release of Sovaz in February 2024, her music clearly shifts toward urban cultures. She takes a bold turn, refuses to smooth the edges, composes syncopated tracks, and delivers lyrics charged with deep rage, released in a breath shaped by the urgency of the streets. Sovaz evokes a raw, unpolished, even insolent attitude — a transgressive voice born from the streets.
